Durham’s Admissions and International Office are working intensely with Password and their wrap-around invigilation partners, ProctorU on the final stages of test launch preparations. We are aiming to launch the test in mid-May and will get back to you as soon as we have firm details of the date and Password test allocation process for students.
The cost of taking a Password test will be 80GBP, which students will be able to pay via a Durham portal. The Password Skills test consists of four test modules – reading, writing, listening and speaking, and is run in two parts with a break in between. The test grades mirror the IELTS test. There are some excellent resources for students on the Password website includes detailed information about the modules, PowerPoint presentations on the test format, and practice tests.
We have received a number of enquiries from partners regarding the Duolingo and IELTS online tests and whether Durham will accept it. Durham’s English Language Centre (DCAD) staff have reviewed both tests and have advised that we are not able to accept either test for admission to Durham University academic programmes, or the Summer Pre-Sessional English programmes. We have recently expanded the number of accepted English language tests, which can be found on our website at: https://www.dur.ac.uk/learningandteaching.handbook/1/3/3/3/
In the meantime, please encourage any students holding an offer for Durham that includes an English Language condition to register their interest in the Password test at: https://bit.ly/2KvbokZ
